Kati Scheu Krieger
My model for Kati Scheu Krieger was Theresa. An immigrant from Hohenzollern, in 1896 she found herself pregnant and abandoned by her lover in Hell’s Kitchen. This working single mother then won the heart of my great grandfather’s brother. They married in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1899.
“You know I will not tolerate being anything less than your, than an equal voice to yours,” I said. “I do believe in votes for women, and I will participate in suffrage. I will not neglect you, but I will neither neglect myself.”
